The Compagnia Generale di Elettricità is General Electric Power Company, more famous with the Cge acronym, was an Italian joint-stock company electrical engineering and electronics manufacturer.
History
It was founded in 1921 to Milan like Italian division of the industrial group American General Electric. The activity of the society initially was oriented to the commercialization of receiving apparatuses of the RCA (radios) .
Towards the end of years twenty it began to always become producing of wireless apparatuses. The company grew quickly, and in the '30 it was placed between first place at a national level in production of radios. Remarkable happening collected models like Audioletta, Consoletta and Radio Balilla.
The production came widened also to the radiophonographs, amplifiers, loudspeakers, caps and systems of recording and reproduction. In the same period one specialized also in the production of other types of apparatuses electrical workers like dynamo, transformers and motors.
It was introduced in the field of the transports because for many years it supplied the equipment for the powertrain technology components machinery.
In 1941 the Cge acquired FAR (former SAFAR), created the FIAR (Italian Factory Apparatuses Radios) and two plants, to Milan and Baranzate.
The first one was used for the realization of a series of apparatuses radios and navigation, and the relative necessary components to the equipment fabrication radios electrical workers. The second instead was used for the normal production of wireless apparatuses. In the years after the Second World War resumptions the production activity, IT has extended to the household-electric appliances and televisions.
For how much it concerns this last field, great part of the production came moved in 1946 in the plant of Baranzate, that Italian Factory Radio and Televisori came renamed FIRT (). In 1958 it acquired the brand of the failed company manufacturer of wireless apparatuses Unda radio.
With the Unda brand it produced radio receivers till 1962. In 1950 in plant FIAR of Milan, the Cge was specialized in the construction of transmitter-receivers for army, while from 1961 it started the realization of radar for naval activity and aeronautics . FIAR came then joined to the Cge in 1967 [1]. In 1966, the electrotechnical production of the Cge met in Ansaldo-Saint George.
In the field of consumer electronics the Cge remained active in the successive years till 1994, when it stopped definitively the activity (AKA DEAD).
