AUTOVOX TVC1683 "THE BLACK CUBE" YEAR 1983.

The so called "Black Cube" or even "The Rubberish" is the AUTOVOX TVC1683 whith his uncommon cubic design.

Another example of Italian Design "Crazyness". (In Italy they called it:"Il Gommoso")

The tellye has 16 inches color screen with HI-BRI tube (PHILIPS) and 29 programs with PLL Synthesizer tuning system and search.

It's the first model series of AUTOVOX using the Ucontroller to feature the PLL Synthesizer tuning system in this kind of tellye.

Furthermore it features first time the use of the Motorola TDA3300.Motorola's third generation PAL decoder system (Chroma III) employs a single 40 -pin i.c., type TDA3300. Amongst the features of this i.c. are low dissipation, typically 600mW, with a single 12V supply; a patented 90° phase - shift system requiring no adjustment; and direct inputs for on -screen (data, TV games, etc.) displays, with a complementary fast blanking input. Of particular interest is the beam limiting and automatic black -level adjustment system, the latter making it unnecessary to incorporate preset controls to set up the black level. These arrangements rely on three high -voltage transistors to monitor the beam currents, providing feedback signals for the i.c.  If the reference voltage is exceeded, the beam current limiting action comes into operation, reducing the contrast. The system has been designed to enhance the set's video and digital signal handling capability. During the flyback time the feedback input impedance rises, activating a further internal comparator. This compares the tube's cut-off current (a hot cathode doesn't cut off completely) with another internal reference voltage. The resultant signal is integrated and added to the output (at the output clamp) to provide the automatic black -level correction. Readers may recall that a similar idea, using discrete circuitry, is employed in certain B and 0 colour chassis. The advantage is that the black level is held constant throughout the tube's life, with no grey scale drift.

It has his own original remote with his pretty unique "Location" to put it after use in the cabinet itself.

The cabinet is indeed Rubbish so the Light tone on it has ever that Car tires style color.

Needless to say that the set here in collection was used around 10 Hours per day and it's still functional. (Quality rules)

Even with the apparent simplicity it was a quite sophisiticated set at that time (1983).

AUTOVOX SpA HISTORY

Giordano Bruno Verdesi founded in Rome in 1933 the Industry Italian Radio engineering, IRI, for the production of professional apparates, but this had its single development in 1945 with the war reconstruction post.

Previewing a strong development of the motorization, with Carlo Daroda, it comes up the Autovox SpA, with the specialization car radio production.

In 1953 the company is upgraded and constructed on the way Pays wages to Rome, the new plant for the production of television sets, antennas, car radio, transistor radio receivers, beyond a production of radiosondes and professional apparatuses for the aeronautical meteorology.

With the planning of the first car radio in the world, the leggendaria Bikini, in 1942 it begins a long season of successes like with the car radio Piper, the blue line with the first tuning electronic, the Kanguro the first car extractable stereo, mythical the Shuttle and Challenger the first car radio with the frequency synthesis, represents for Autovox, the flag stones in the development of new technologies, beyond to a complete range of television set (in black and white) of great reliability and from the pretty aesthetic.

Successively it realizes first in Europe, a color television set with fully transistorized chassis. (CLICK HERE TO SEE).
